It is now officially summer. Can. Not. Believe. It. This year they each filled a page of notebook paper with their favorite things about the year and we scanned, colored, and printed them on beautiful paper, to give to their teachers. Each was them of course signed by the artists.my favorite feature is ‘resus’ (otherwise known as recess).

making me miss it
I saw this post over at apartment therapy today about the standard winning the MASterwork Award from the Municipal Art Society for excellence in urban architecture. It stradles the high line which was alas, in its final stages of completion and not yet open while we were there, next time, next time…Man, hope I have an excuse to visit again soon. I miss eating breakfast in THE most comfortable bed with THE most incredible view.
sickly technology
I have been out of the loop the last few days with an ailing computer. I feel totally disconnected! But now I have a shiny new computer on its way and this perty little cover to keep it that way.

objects of devotion
I recently saw this way to display ‘well loved’ objects over at the selby and immediately knew I wanted to do this. The more loved a stuffed animals is the cuter it gets. My son has one such friend, and many, many more that are loved, just not loved to near destruction. A great way to display these cherished objects of childhood! I want to run out and get a mass of different sized wood boxes…

I am doing a lot of varnishing/finishing up of things around here today and then will have a lot of new work to share!
we survived the weekend
if only barely. Pirate parties and bike rides were had, as our weather has been just gorgeous. Danger boy (as our son is affectionately known), rode his bike into a parked car, flipped over the handle bars, and I am happy to report came away with only a scratch. Lovely strangers helped us wash him off and bandage him up for the road.
just because
thay make me laugh every time I walk by them…
happy weekend!

So we live in the city. Granted, this is
Maps have been drawn, plans have made, for my city kids it doesn’t get better than this.
questions for mums
I am one of the featured mums today over at LMNOP. It is so funny to read through all of the other mother’s answers to the questions we were asked. The concensus seems to be the number one thing kids have taught us is patience. Now truth be told, my kids have taught me patience, but I’m still working out the finer points of how to put it into action. To read about more go here.
studio dreamin
Design Within Reach has some new prefab structures that have me revisiting the idea of converting our detached garage into a studio space. Maybe someday….
to all mothers
To my mother, all mothers i know and to those who read here, wishing you a wonderful day!
the spoils
Of course, I couldn’t come away without a few little finds on my trip. I didn’t go too crazy, though. New York in a bag is one of those gifts you give to your child that you hope they bore of soon so you can take possesion. I found this charming little book in the Yoya shop along with a couple old issues of Milk I didn’t have. And couldn’t resist this beautiful set of Nara postcards in the MoMA shop.
i’m back!
It was a wonderful, exhausting and inspiring trip. Here are a few of my photos…
Loved, loved our hotel. We stayed at The Standard in the meat packing district. Great views and highly entertaining people watching in the lobby. We made the museum rounds, American Museum of Natural History (thanks Emily for the tip), MoMA and the Guggenheim. And spent a gloriously sunny day in Central Park. I hope to have an excuse to go back again soon!
playground
Last year I was contacted by an amazing woman finishing up work on a documentary called The Playground. It is about the heavy and shocking, but neccesary, topic of the trafficking of children for commercial sexual exploitation. I lent some of my art to the marketing of this film that is debuting this week at the Tribecca Film Festival. The film features the artwork of the amazing Yoshitomo Nara, and is the first time he has allowed his work to be animated. Which brings me to the reason I am heading to New York in a few days. As a way to continue to bring awareness to this topic, the Nest foundation was created. In benefit of it, a gala with a silent auction featuring art from Jeff Koons, Joanne Greenbaum, Todd DiCurcio and one of my paintings is being held. I am beyond excited (and humbled and terrified) to be featured next to these amazing artists. You can go here to learn more about Playgrond and Nest.
busy, busy
First my family was sick, then my computer, yuck. Now (knock on wood) all are on the mend and just in time. I am so excited to share that I am off to NYC later this week! I have a painting at an event that I will tell you more about tomorrow, but needless to say, I can’t wait! This will be my first time there (if you don’t count transferring airports) so if anyone has any great tips, please share! MoMA is on my list, and the moma store where I plan on getting this…
isn’t it perdy?
off to paint….
and then there were…
bangs
I haven’t had bangs since the days of the vertical, hairspray laden, waterfall bangs (just dated myself didn’t I).
edit: just noticed I now have the same haircut as in the print below, hmmmm…..
daily inspiration
I’ve finally gotten around to updating my side panel to show the evergrowing list of blogs I enjoy stopping by. Whenever I find a new blog that I love, I get that feeling like when you find the perfect book! That’s how I felt when I saw small magazine just started a new blog. The magazine is always a treat, now I get my daily fix, as well.
